NRA (National Revenue Authority) Board of Commissioners is expected to summon the Commissioner-General, Dr. Samuel Jibao, to explain a revenue loss to the tune of US$4.2M (Four million two hundred thousand United States Dollars) through an import duty waiver scheme.

A whistle blower in the Customs and Excise Department has informed the Global Times that he is wondering how a waiver on the payment of import duties and taxes was granted to a prominent businessman for the import of some essential commodities including frozen chickens during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A senior official at NRA has informed the Global Times that “nothing untoward happened” during this particular transaction.

The matter is to be referred to the Board of Commissioners of NRA for a proper investigation, according to a reliable source close to the NRA Board of Commissioners.

Investigations continue.
