The Voice of Islam Radio Station has formally launched or inaugurated its new Board of Trustees at a ceremony held at the Hill Valley Hotel, Signal Hill, Freetown.
The new Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, said he and other members of the Board were grateful to management of the radio station for the confidence reposed in them.
He said he had always been on hand on matters of Islam, adding that the new Board was dedicated to promoting the expansion and development of the radio station and Islam.
Alhaji Kanja Sesay stressed that he was not at the ceremony because he is the country’s Minister of Energy, noting that the Management Committee of the station had made it clear to him that the honour or position they were according him was in recognition of his tremendous role towards the promotion of Islam in Sierra Leone.
The new Chairman said the Board was already aware of the herculean challenges the station was faced with, citing a couple of technical and administrative shortcomings as issues that his team would try to address. He assured the Management Committee that his team would live up to the expectations of Muslims.
He concluded by commending the station for positively impacting Islam and national development through a variety of radio programs.
Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Hon. Chernor Maju Bah, described the occasion as very important, adding that it was time for Voice of Islam to expand its coverage and operation in the country and to bring in new faces into its fold.
He said he had no doubts over the commitment and competence of the new Chairman and the entire team while also assuring that they would transform the station and contribute immensely to the growth of Islam.
