Ali and Hisham Mackie have opened a hospital in Koidu City in memory of their late father, Pa Hussein Mackie. They have transformed the house their father built and in which they grew up into a free for all medical facility. The late Pa Mackie was a prominent diamond magnate and philanthropist. He was highly respected by the people of Kono.
In order to keep his dream and vision alive, his children decided to open a hospital in Koidu City, Kono district that provides free consultation and free quality medical services for the people of Kono district.
The Hussein Mackie Memorial Hospital has modern medical equipment including an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine to check patientsโ€™ hearts rhythm and electrical activity, hematology analyzers (blood analyses) and a CT computed tomography scanner (an advanced X-ray machine) in addition to treating common ailments like Malaria, and typhoid to enhance good health services for the underprivileged people in Kono.
The Mackie Family have ring-fenced a certain amount of money that they are using to pay the salaries of all the hospital staff including the Egyptian doctor that is in charge of the hospital, lab technicians and trained Sierra Leonean health workers including nurses.
This is the first time in Sierra Leone that a single family is providing such essential medical services for the people of one district at no cost to them.
People from all over the country are now trooping into Koidu City, Kono district to register and benefit from the free consultation and free medical services provided by the Hussein Mackie Memorial Hospital in Koidu City.
We want to heartily commend the Mackie Family especially Ali and Hisham Mackie for donating the Hussein Mackie Memorial Hospital to the people of Kono district in particular and Sierra Leoneans in general.
Because of the huge demand for the services that the hospital is providing, the Mackie Family is working on plans to expand the facility to accommodate more people.
