The Minister of Transport and Aviation, Kabineh Kallon, has assured the Global Times that two brand new passenger ferries are expected to arrive in Freetown before the end of this month. Two more will follow in the New Year, according to the Minister.
The anticipated arrival of the two brand new ferries is expected to ease the difficulties of sea transportation from Freetown Government Wharf to Tagrin.
The Government of Sierra Leone has handed over the ferry terminal ports of Kissy, Government Wharf and Tagrin to Negmar Shipping and Investment Corporation (Incorporated in Sierra Leone) based in Turkey.
Negmar is to develop the infrastructure and renovate the assets presently located in the said Port terminals for the use of ferry service operations, offices, and other services affiliated with the ferry operation, according to a senior official in the Ministry of Transport and Aviation
Senior officials in the Ministry of Transport and Aviation confirmed last night that “the ferry service will be privately owned, privately financed, and privately operated by the Negmar Corporation based in Istanbul, Turkey”.
