A Sierra Leonean based in Holland, Madam Isatu Sesay and a host of other philanthropists in Holland have provided school and learning materials to over 400 pupils of St Andrews RC primary school and bales of used clothing for the people of Maron Village, Safrokoh Chiefdom, Karene District.
The donation is part of Madam Sesay and partnersโ€™ contribution to complement government efforts towards the Free Quality Education (FQE) program. The donated items include books, school bags and other vital learning materials.
Presenting the donated materials on behalf of herself and her fellow donors back in Holland, Madam Isatu Sesay said that the donation is symbolic and it is part of their commitment to promote effective and quality child education in Sierra Leone. She also said that they are devoted to supporting vulnerable school going children as their major concern is to provide a helping hand to promote education in deprived communities across the country.
โ€œItโ€™s sickening to see some school going kids seeking education in such a deplorable and poor learning environment. If the learning environment of our children is not friendly, there will be no positive learning outcome. Even the roof and furniture of the school are in a bad shape as the school lacks essential educational facilities. I believe in education so are my partners, we will do our utmost best to support child education in Sierra Leone. We are ready to do more for you guys if you continue to work hard and take your academic work seriously.โ€ Madam Sesay concludes.
The head teacher of the school, Mr. Brima Kamara encouraged the school going pupils to take their academic work seriously and become useful citizens in future. He thanked Madam Isatu Sesay for the support towards the less privileged in their school as it will go a long way to boost their academic achievement, as they are finding it extremely difficult to get such educational materials.
Lieutenant General Sullay Sesay of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces thanked Madam Sesay for such a big humanitarian gesture to the people of that part of the country. He said this is not the first time the Sesay Family has given support to Maron village. One of the beneficiaries, a class 4 pupil thanked Madam Sesay and partners for the educational support given to them. She said that the school bags and the other educational materials will help them greatly to achieve their dreams for the future, as she wants to become a medical doctor in the future.
