The Minister of Trade and Industry Dr. Edward Hinga Sandi, on Thursday 10th February 2022, signed an agreement with MIRO Agro Industry at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Information and Communications during the weekly Government press briefing.
In line with the Government of Sierra Leone’s Medium Term National Development Plan, which is geared towards Human Capital Development, the agreement will create jobs andย build citizens’ capacity in the forestry sector. It is for this reason, that the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Trade and Industry signed the agreement with the MIRO Agro Industry.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry Mr Augustine Sahr Sheku in his brief remarks opined that, the symbolic signing of the agreement is very important for the people of this country and for the economy in particular. He went further to say that the agreement received overwhelming support when it was presented to Parliament.
The Minister of Trade and Industry Dr. Edward Hinga Sandi in his statement said, the agreement seeks to enhance the company’s capability to produce finished goods. He said the company will now plant more trees and manufacture plywood and solid quality poles.ย He said MIRO is a Tonkololi based company that has manufacturers producing electric poles and ply woods. According to the Minister, this agreement will benefit Sierra Leoneans and also enhance economic growth.
The Business Operations Manager of MIRO, Mr. Le Roux Dupper said, Miro is here to stay and that they have increased their manpower from 10 in 2012 to 1400 in 2020. He said with the signing of the agreement, the company will add over 600 jobs. The company plans to plant more trees over the years.
