On 31st May 2022, Statistics Sierra Leone published the provisional results of the December 2021 Mid-Term Population and Housing Census with Kenema topping the list followed by Bo. The countryโ€™s population has risen to 7,541,641 a little over 500,000 since the last Population and Housing Census was conducted in 2015.
It has to be said that even though the main opposition APC party called on their members and supporters to boycott the 2021 Mid-Term Population and Housing Census, the turn-out was phenomenal. This is the first digital Population and Housing Census ever conducted in Sierra Leone. It has been described as credible and flawless.
Unlike the flawed 2015 Population and Housing Census conducted and supervised by the APC, the 2021 Mid-Term Population and Housing Census results were not manipulated. The author of the 2021 Mid-Term Census is world-renowned Statistician Prof. Osman Sankoh fondly called Mallam O.
The voter registration is expected to commence on 4th September, 2022 ahead of elections slated for June 2023. We hope the APC Party will not boycott this important event in the election calendar.
Since he was elected in April 2018, President Julius Maada Bio has paid particular attention to the governance of the state by handling the big issues like the global cost of living and energy crisis. That is why, even though we are in the middle of a major global food, financial and energy crisis, there is no food shortage in the country. That is what good leadership is about. It is about tackling the bigger issues head on.
Whilst APC party members, supporters and their civil society friends are busy playing politics, President Bio is busy governing the country. The President is focused on addressing the bread and butter issues that affect ordinary Sierra Leoneans.
Instead of providing alternative policies to what the current SLPP government is pursuing, APC party members and supporters are behaving like kids in a candy shop.
We call on the APC party and their surrogate civil society friends to stop playing politics and join the President to address the big issues that countries across the globe, including Sierra Leone, continue to address.
