Police on Friday, 19th August, 2022 arrested and detained the Member of Parliament for Constituency 066 in the Karena District, Hon. Mohamed Bangura. Police sources confirmed last night that he was in their custody at the CID Headquarters in Freetown.
According to a Police spokesman, Hon. Mohamed Bangura was arrested in relation to an on-going investigation into the violence that took place in Constituency 056 in Sambaia Bendugu at Tonkolili district.
The Speaker of Parliament has reportedly intervened and the matter is expected to be handled in-house. The Speaker is currently out of the country on official assignment.
The Opposition Leader in Parliament, Hon. Chernor Marju Bah told the Global Times last night that he was in touch with the Speaker of Parliament to have the issue amicably resolved.
Investigations continue.
