The alleged victim of a sexual harassment scandal at the Rokel Commercial Bank has announced plans to seek court action for sexual harassment at work against her former boss, the Managing Director (MD) of the bank for allegedly pressuring her for sexual favors.

After suffering a series of alleged โ€œsexual victimizations and advancesโ€ at the hand of Walton Ekundayo Gilpin; Mrs Margaret Davies, the alleged victim said the matter has now been reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), waiting to be charged to court, after statements would have been obtained from her witnesses.

Amid this scandal, the Bank has terminated โ€œmy contract in retaliationโ€ of the sexual harassment complaint which has been making headlines in top newspapers across the country recently, Mrs Davies told a news conference at the Africell-American Corner in Freetown yesterday.

Mrs Davies worked at the Rokel Commercial Bank for six years after she was hired in November 2016. She served as the Company Secretary and Legal Adviser at the bank until when her contract was terminated recently.

She explained that in July 2017, Mr Gilpin also joined the Bank, and in August of that year, he started his advances to her. โ€œI entertained his flattering messages for just three months until October (2017) to keep my job,โ€ she explained.

Speaking to the press about the alleged workplace harassment, Mrs Davies also revealed that she decided to speak with the Chairman of the Board of the Rokel Commercial Bank about the issue she had been facing at the hands of the Managing Director of the bank.

After a series of complaints, she said that she was receiving some backlash within the bank, suggesting that she drops the matter, and learns to cope with workplace encounters.

She also explained that she has documented some messages with Gilpin making advances to her even though he knew that she is married, and she was pregnant at the time.

Mrs Davies said: โ€œImagine an MD pursuing a pregnant married woman… sending sexually-induced messages, verbal and nonverbal advances.โ€
