Battle Partners Limited, a Non-Governmental Organisation has in collaboration with the Office of National Security (ONS) yesterday formally launched the National Security Sector Awards of Excellence to State Security Forces, which includes the Republic of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) and the National Fire Force (NFF).

In his opening statement at a ceremony held yesterday at the ONS Head Office on Tower Hill in Freetown, the Deputy National Security Coordinator (ONS) Dr. Ahmed A. Sannoh recalled a year ago when Battle Partners Limited met ONS Coordinator and expressed their desire to work with the security sector; in recognition of the achievement of the security sector.

Dr. Sannoh assured to work with partners to recognise excellence, with the first awards planned to take place in December 2022. The launching, he said is a preamble to formally launch the program itself. He confessed that this is a novelty because nobody has ever thought of this, and therefore thanked Battle Partners for their unique idea and initiative in recognising our security personnel and for believing in the security sector.

Delivering the Keynote speech, Major General Christian Fahim Marrah said the National Security Award is an excellent award that recognises personnel from different security sector for excellent performance in the discharge of their duties.

The award ceremony is geared towards motivating, promoting and inspiring all security sector actors in the country. In honour of our serving members for their hard work, discipline, loyalty and respect for the rule of law in protecting life and property. The vision is to see a vibrant, motivation and proactive security sector to provide standard security routine that will create an enabling environment for investment and development of Sierra Leone.

Mr. Rajj Dyphu Din Gabisi from the Battle Partners Limited said as a former Police Officer that served for nineteen years, his role now is to motivate, inspire and create an enabling platform were officers in all cadre see themselves important towards the security sector in Sierra Leone.

Mr. Gabisi presented an example of categories of Officers awards emblem, which carries the Country Logo of Unity Freedom and Justice. This according to Din Gabisi is what Battle Partners Limited wants to see within the Sierra Leone security sector. There are ninety of those awards to be given every year in the four security sector, and with categories of five personnel to compete for an award. The best will be chosen based on vote, 70% votes from the public and 30% from the respective security institutions.

Out of the Ninety awards, thirty five are Honorary Awards that will be given to deserving applicants and to other personnel that have served. He appealed to all to make this a success, and want to see huge professional ethics with integrity to foster this awards.
