The Chairman and Chief Electoral Commissioner of the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone, Mr. Mohamed Kenewui Konneh was in Nigeria last week to participate in what he described as an โ€œAssessment of the pre-election arrangements and preparations for forthcoming general electionsโ€ in the country.
The assessment visit was to strengthen electoral processes and further discuss efforts to make the forthcoming elections in West Africa nations participatory, transparent and credible.
The ECSL Commissioner and Chairperson said he was in Nigeria on a special invitation by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the GIZ.
The pre-election assessment came at a time when Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Liberia would be having their elections in 2023.
The Chairman lNEC of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mahmood Yakubu was the host of the pre-election assessment venture.
The Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission of Liberia Mrs. Davidetta Browne Lansanah, the Director of Political Affairs at ECOWAS Commission and GIZ representatives were all part of the Elections Assessment process.
While in Abuja, the Chairman and Chief Electoral Commissioner on Thursday 3rd, November, 2022, paid a courtesy call on the Sierra Leone High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, HE Rupert Davies at the Sierra Leone High Commission located on Plot 308 Diplomatic Drive in Abuja.
Mr. Konneh and High Commissioner Davies had friendly bilateral engagements of mutual interests.
On his part, High Commissioner Rupert Davies welcomed Mr. Konneh on behalf of the Diplomatic Staff to the Sierra Leone High Commission and thanked him for his visit.
Before his return to Sierra Leone, the Mr. Konneh was assured of his safety and was accorded all the diplomatic protocols during his short stay in Abuja, Nigeria.
