As the country prepares for the June 2023 elections, the main opposition APC party is on the brink of collapse as a result of a leadership tussle. The party has been unable to preside over lower-level elections. Time is running out. The disunity within the party is uncontrollable.
President Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio is doing everything possible to ensure that a level playing field is created for all parties contesting the forthcoming elections. Fifteen months to the election, President Bio announced the exact date for the conduct of Presidential election.
The ECSL (Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone) have successfully concluded the voter registration process. The activities of the ECSL are well publicised to give everyone the opportunity to know what they are doing.
It is now very clear that the APC party are unable to effectively compete in the June 2023 general elections. The party is not prepared to take part in a free, fair, transparent and credible election. They have no message for the electorate. They have lost the propaganda war.
In less than five years in office, President Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio has taken big and bold decisions in the best interests of the country. The President has repealed Part V of the Public Order Act of 1965, he has abolished the death penalty, he has introduced the free quality education program and he has tackled the perennial electricity outages in Freetown, Bo, Kenema, Kono and Makeni. He has embarked on the electrification of major district headquarter towns and he is also constructing an ultra-modern airport terminal and runway at Lungi. President Bio is due to sign into law on January 19, 2023 the Gender Equality and Womenโ€™s Empowerment Act.
The President has this year doubled the annual subvention paid to the Journalists Association SLAJ.
Very recently and for the first time in the history of Sierra Leone, President Bio commissioned the Foreign Service Academy.
Even in the middle of a global financial crisis and a pandemic, President Bio was able to preside over a stable economy. Salaries continued to be paid, Sierra Leone has not defaulted in its external debt payments and hospitals continue to be regularly supported. This is a clear show of strong and astute leadership.
President Bioโ€™s overwhelming reelection in June 2023 is inexorable.
