When the country desperately needed a strong, compassionate and credible leader in 2018, Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio appeared and took over the leadership of the country through the ballot box. He has been in power for almost five years now.

As President, Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio has paid special attention to human capital development by introducing the Free Quality Education Program. Confident of victory in the forthcoming June 24, 2023 multi-tier elections, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has promised to prioritize food security, energy and roads, job creation for women and youth, technology and innovation during his second term.

Up and down this country, the electorate believe that, President Bio has delivered on his 2018 manifesto commitments. He is now fondly called the “Tok & Do President”. President Bio has succeeded in keeping his party united. He has avoided taking controversial decisions that will split the party right in the middle.

Last week, President Bio endorsed the current Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh as his running mate and Vice Presidential candidate for the June 24th, 2023 general elections. That decision resonated very well with party members and supporters. It has kept the party intact.

President Bio has continued to exhibit self-confidence. He is prepared to confront the challenges of high office and to succeed. He has a sense of comfort with himself.

The main opposition APC party is in disarray. The party is still unable to conduct peaceful lower-level elections leading to the election of their flag bearer for the June 24, 2023 elections. The party is beset by legal wrangling and leadership infighting.

It appears as if the APC party is not prepared for or is incapable of competing in the June 2023 Presidential elections. The SLPP, on the other hand, are quite prepared for the June 2023 general elections.

The SLPP is meeting next month to approve Rules and Regulations for the award of symbols for Parliamentary and Local Council elections and to establish campaign committees. This is a show of readiness for the June 2023 elections.

As leader of the SLPP, President Bio is determined to modernize and rebrand the party to make it fit for purpose in the 21st Century.

For the past five years, President Bio has worked very hard to rebrand Sierra Leone and make it attractive to direct foreign investments and a safe haven for international tourists. Sierra Leone is now one of the safest countries in Africa. The country now relies on the credibility of President Bio to attract donor support.
