On 31st January, 2023 the Director General of NCRA, Mohamed M. Massaquoi, officially requested the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to use her good office to inform the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, Nigeria that, Sierra Leone has commenced the production and issuance of Biometric and Securitized ECOWAS compliant ID Cards for nationals of ECOWAS member states resident in Sierra Leone.
In a Note Verbale dated 14th February, 2023 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone informed the ECOWAS Commission that, โSierra Leone has on Monday 30th January, 2023 commenced the production and issuance of Biometric and Securitized ECOWAS compliant ID Cards for nationals of ECOWAS member states resident in Sierra Leone, to facilitate unfettered movements and trade integration within ECOWAS countriesโ.
According to the Note Verbale, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sierra Leone โWill be grateful if holders of the above mentioned ECOWAS ID Cards could be accorded with any assistance they may need including cross-border immigration, travel, business, residency and work-related services during the course of their travels in your respective diplomatic zonesโ.
Sierra Leone is one of few countries in the sub-region that have produced ECOWAS compliant ID Cards for nationals of ECOWAS member states.
