Family members of three Sierra Leoneans allegedly murdered by some South African security personnel employed by Marampa Mines Limited in the Port Loko district have called on the Government to set up an inquest to ascertain the cause and manner of death. The incident took place in October last year. They have questioned the autopsy report presented by Dr. Owizz Kamara who attributed the death of the three Sierra Leoneans to drowning.
Some family members accused the Marampa Mines foreign security personnel of torturing, beating and killing the deceased Sierra Leoneans and throwing their decomposed bodies into a nearby sea.
They have now called on the Government of Sierra Leone to exhume the corpses for an independent Pathologist to carry out a proper post-mortem examination to determine the cause and manner of death.
They have also called on the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone to conduct an independent investigation of the brutal murder of the three Sierra Leonean nationals.
A Government of Sierra Leone spokesman informed the Global Times that, they are still studying a Police report on the incident and the autopsy report done by Dr. Owizz Kamara, the Consultant Government Pathologist. He refused to comment further.
Meanwhile, the companyโs Deputy Country Manager, Mrs. Husainatu Yilla (the daughter of a senior cabinet minister) has been sacked for unexplained reasons.
The Chairman and CEO of Marampa Mines Limited, Craig Dean is now seen in the company of some senior APC officials. He is believed to be a very good friend of the outgoing Mayor of
Freetown. The companyโs lawyer is Wara Serry-Kamal, a member of the main opposition APC.
Investigations continue.
