Usually reliable sources have confirmed that the European Union has approved and signed a €50M grant with the Government of Sierra Leone to upscale energy access in the country. The windfall from the European Union comes hot on the heels of the government of President Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio finalizing the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact Grant which is also directed at transformation of the energy sector in Sierra Leone.
According to sources, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance Honourable Sheku Fantamadi Bangura signed the financing grant on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone whilst Mr. Hans Christian Strausboll signed on behalf of the European Union.
The European Union has been a reliable ally of the government and people of Sierra Leone and has always come in handy at very critical periods of our country’s history. This latest grant will significantly deepen the ties between the EU and the Government of Sierra Leone.
President Dr Julius Maada Bio’s government has radically transformed the energy sector alongside education. The support from the EU is an endorsement of President Bio’s agenda by the EU.
