His Excellency President Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio has named the Port Loko Branch of the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology as the Ahmad Tejan Kabbah University of Education and Technology. The Ahmad Tejan Kabbah University of Education and Technology becomes an autonomous University. It is the first University in the Northwest Region. Former President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah is credited with ending the 11-year civil war in Sierra Leone in 2002.
The Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Alpha Tejan Wurie (Associate Professor) was very instrumental in getting the Cabinet to approve the decision to delink the Port Loko Branch of the EBK University to make it a stand-alone University in the Northwest Region of the county.
President Bioโs decision to name a University after President Kabbah has been commended as a show of gratitude to a man who led his country from the brink of collapse.
