The Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu has assured the people of Sierra Leone of tight and robust security throughout the country.
Speaking to Global Times at the Sierra Leone Police headquarters, IGP Fayia Sellu said, the police force is in high spirits to provide undiluted and proper security for the people of Sierra Leone before, during and after the multi-tier elections on the 24th June 2023.
He said the police and Army are presently deployed in strategic parts of the country including the capital city Freetown and they are also doing a joint patrol in Freetown on a 24-hour basis as part of the Military Aid to Civil Power (MAC-P) to ensure free and safe movement of the general public.
He furthered that with support from the government of Sierra Leone, the police have been boosted with most of the needed equipment to make them deliver effective and professional policing to the people of Sierra Leone.
On the issue of a planned protest circulating on social media, the IGP said whoever wants to protest must do so according to the laws of Sierra Leone failing to do is a crime punishable by law. He however confirmed that the Sierra Leone Police is on top of the situation and some arrests have already been made in connection to the unlawful planned protest.
He called on all Sierra Leoneans to be law abiding and rob go about their normal business as the security forces are out there to protect life and property and whoever has relevant information on any security related issues should be patriotic enough to inform the police.
