The All Political Parties Association (APPA) yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Inspector General and other Senior Police Officers of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) at a well-attended ceremony which took place at the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Headquarters, George Street in Freetown, to commend them for their professional and proactive role in policing the June 24th, 2023 multi-tier elections.
The Chairman of the All Political Parties Associations (APPA) Mr. Prince Caulker said that the Association made the courtesy call to commend the SLP for their impressive role before, during and after the 24th June elections.
He said that APPA will like to thank the SLP for providing security for each and every presidential candidate which is commendable under the leadership of the IGP as these elections were professionally policed throughout the country. “We commend the security forces, as we are satisfied and appreciative of the role the SLP played which resulted in peaceful elections”, he noted.
Chairman Caulker noted that such a high level of professionalism displayed by the police and the other security forces ensured a peaceful and safe environment that enabled the people of Sierra Leone to cast their votes “Saful”. “Your institution did a good job by providing undiluted security and there is no complaint made by citizens of the country”.
He concluded that the All Political Parties Association (APPA) is open to work with the current government of President Bio as he won the election genuinely.
In his statement, the Inspector General of Sierra Leone Police William Fayia Sellu thanked APPA for their bold drive to come and commend them for the role they played in the elections.
IGP said his institution is happy to see a peaceful atmosphere all over the country during and after the elections, adding that firstly the police provided security for all political leaders during and after the elections.
The IGP noted that amidst some challenges, Sierra Leone has been rated as the third most peaceful country in Africa.
IGP furthered that, the SLP is working very hard to ensure that the entire country is safe and people should continue to go about their normal business in a peaceful and secure environment.
He concluded by thanking the All Political Parties Association (APPA) for their visit and called on all Sierra Leoneans to be law-abiding and channel all their grievances to the appropriate authorities.
