His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio met and held a fruitful discussion with the Director-General of the World Health Organization Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Monday 24th July 2023 at the ongoing UN Food Systems Summit +2 in Rome, Italy at the premises of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) hosted by Italy, in collaboration with the Rome-based UN Agencies (FAO, IFAD, WFP), the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub and the wider UN system.
In his Tweet, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, โHonoured to meet my brother President Bio at the UN Food Systems Summit 2023. Thanked him for Sierra Leoneโs investment in emergency preparedness, including via WHO Universal Health Preparedness Review. We discussed the establishment of a national public health agency and how we can support, as well as Sierra Leoneโs efforts to expand immunization, eliminate cervical cancer and reduce maternal mortality. In another development, President Bio also held a brief bilateral discussion with Antรณnio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations who congratulated President Bio on his re-election in person and they later posed for the press together.
