Justice Cosmotina Jarret of the Anti-Corruption Court Division sitting in Freetown has convicted and sentenced Abdul Koroma to a maximum jail term of seventy (70) years.
Abdul Koroma was convicted after being found guilty of two counts indictment of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery with aggravation contrary to law.
During the course of the trial by a Judge Alone, the then accused Abdul Koroma was clearly identified by the victims, Mala Tilwani and Lokash as the leader of a gang of eight robbers that attacked, robbed and instilled fear in them as they were armed with machetes.
Another victim Lokash Tilwani was severely beaten up and one of his fingers almost severed off when the armed robbers were trying to remove a silver ring from his hand.
The accused and his cohorts also carted away property valued at over five hundred Million Leones.
Dauda Kargbo was separately convicted of robbery and sentenced to fifteen (15) years jail term including the time already spent in remand.
The now convict Dauda Kargbo was on 11th November, 2021 arraigned before the court onย two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, and pleaded not guilty.
He (Dauda Kargbo) was tried by a Judge Alone, found guilty by Justice Cosmotina Jarret on one count and discharged on another count of conspiracy to commit robbery.
In the particulars of offence, the State alleged that on the 18th October, 2020 in Freetown the accused robbed Desmond Kanu of physical cash, and other valuable items valued Million of Leones.
According to Justice Cosmotina Jarret, the sentence is to serve as a deterrent for people not to commit robbery or simple robbery.
Lawyer Yusuf S. Koroma on behalf of the State prosecuted the convicts while Lawyer Ibrahim Kargbo from the Legal Aid Board represented the convicts.
