The Chairman of the Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute (SLARI) Council, Chief Dr. Alfred G.O. Dixon has given a comprehensive update on the research outcomes of the Feed Salone initiative at the weekly government press briefing hosted by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education in the conference room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Tuesday, 10th October 2023.
Noting that Sierra Leone is a fertile nation, Dr Dixon encouraged citizens and other stakeholders to treat agriculture with utmost importance.
He said it was very commendable for government to cushion hunger, appealing for all hands to be on deck in realizing this vision.
He furthered that with proper planning and willingness, Sierra Leone and its people will be able to attain food self-sufficiency in the not too distant future.
Dr. Dixon therefore called on public and private sector investors to take agriculture as one of their core targets since the government’s Feed Salone initiative is one of the big five desires of His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio during his second term in office.
Earlier, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka assured of government’s firm commitment to feeding the nation and urged all to play their part in making it happen.
