Amadu Koita, one of the alleged ring leaders of the coup attempt on Sunday, 26th November, 2023 has been arrested in Freetown and taken to Police custody for questioning.
Reports say, he was arrested in an area called Tree Planting in the private residence of a female Police personnel attached to the Interpol section of the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department.
A senior official in the ONS described Amadu Koita as โTop on the wanted listโ released by the security forces few days ago.
Senior Police investigations informed the Global Times that several arrests have been made including serving security personnel, ex-police, military personnel and civilians.
An ex-police officer, Alfred Karrow Kamara, has been released on bail pending further investigations. His name was on the โwanted listโ released by the security forces in connection with the failed coup of Sunday, November 26, 2023.
In an address to the nation on Saturday, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio said, โWe will follow the evidence wherever it leads us, and all those found culpable, no matter their status, shall be held fully to account for their actions within the confines of the law whilst at the same also recognising the wider demands of justice and freedomโ.
Meanwhile, senior security forces personnel confirmed last night that, Yaetay-Yaetay, is still being pursued. โItโs a matter of timeโฆWe will soon apprehend him and bring him before the courtโ, a senior official said.
