His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has departed from Freetown for Nigeria en route to Dubai and China to attend the 2024 Africa-China Summit.
President Bio and his delegation arrived in Abuja, Nigeria on Saturday 24th February to attend the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Extraordinary Summit.
The Summit conveyed by the ECOWAS Chairman President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will discuss the political, peace and security situation in the ECOWAS Sub-Region.
President Bio and delegation left Abuja over the weekend for Dubai where he is expected to have fruitful bilateral discussions with his counterpart and other senior UAE government officials.
President Bio will later proceed to China to attend this yearโs Ninth Forum on ChinaโAfrica Cooperation in Beijing.
Meanwhile, on February 17, 2024, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to the 37th African Union (AU) Summit.
Xi Jinping pointed out that the world today is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, and the Global South represented by China and Africa is booming, which has a profound impact on the course of world history.
The AU brings African countries together to seek strength through unity and vigorously promote integration and the building of free trade areas. The AU’s successful accession to the G20 has further enhanced Africa’s representation and increased its voice in global governance, and China extends heartfelt congratulations on that.
Xi Jinping stressed that China-Africa relations have steadily deepened over the past year. The China-Africa Leaders’ Dialogue was successfully held, at which the two sides decided to support each other in exploring their respective modernization paths and jointly create a favorable environment for realizing their development visions. Noting that the new session of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation is going to be held in 2024, Xi said he stands ready to work with leaders of African countries to elaborately draw up a new blueprint for China-Africa cooperation and promote the joint building of a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future to the benefit of the people of both sides
