The State Prosecutor in the ongoing treason trial of Amadu Koita Makalo and eleven others, Aruna Jalloh, yesterday applied for a closed session to lead the 27th Prosecution Witness Lieutenant John Kainessie in evidence.
Lieutenant John Kainessie was presented to the Court as an additional witness pursuant to section 188 of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965, and on a notice filed and dated 15th April 2024.
According to State Counsel Aruna Jalloh, the appeal for a close session hearing is because the witness evidence touches and concern the security of the State.
Lawyer Foday Mansaray, a Defense Counsel representing the 2nd accused Mohamed Jalloh did not object to the application but raised concerns for a fair trial.
The application for a close session was granted by the trial Judge, Justice Komba Kamanda in view of reference to the security of the State.
The accused persons are before the Court answering to related counts charge ranging from treason to misprision of treason connected to the attempted failed coup of 26th November, 2023 in Freetown
