At least, two government contractors have complained bitterly that, payment order issued to them by the Ministry of Finance, through the Accountant General’s Department, have been declined by the Bank of Sierra Leone.
One of the contractors told the Global Times yesterday that, the payment order was issued to him since January this year. “I am surprised that, a payment order, cleared by the Accountant General’s Department, was dishonoured by the Bank of Sierra Leone”, one of the contractors complained.
A retired bank manager noted that, banks normally decline to pay cheques due to either insufficient cleared funds or non-sufficient funds.
A spokesman for the Bank of Sierra Leone told the Global Times last night that, they do not comment on individual cases. He referred the Global Times to the Accountant General’s Department.
A senior official in the Ministry of Finance admitted that, they had some challenges. He refused to elaborate.
Investigations continue.
