After a difficult week for the Energy Minister, he met with President Bio this morning and offered to step aside. His resignation has been accepted.
Kanja Sesay served as Minister of Energy from July 2018 to April 2024. He succeeded in increasing access to energy, negotiated major energy projects and implemented some of them.
He was seen as one of the best and experienced Ministers in the Bio administration. The recent power outage in the capital city of Freetown may have made his position untenable.
His failure to get the Finance Ministry to settle outstanding payment arrears with Karpowership may have expedited his departure.
Kanja Sesay was seen as one of the five pillars of the Paopa Movement. He was a staunch supporter of current President Bio. His departure came hot on the heels of d retirement of the Speaker of Parliament Dr Abass Bundu, another strong pillar of the Paopa Movement.
Kanja Sesay was seen as the last man standing. His departure is regrettable. He gave the job of Energy Minister his best shot.
