Sierra Leoneโ€™s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Atumanni Dainkeh held a successful interaction with the Sierra Leonean Community and Students Association in Morocco (SLeSAM) at the Embassy during the country’s Independence Day celebration in Rabat.
The event enabled Sierra Leoneans living in Morocco to reflect on the gains the Embassy has been making in the North African country regarding bilateral cooperation and promoting the welfare of Sierra Leoneans living in Morocco.
In a statement, SLeSAM President Sanusie Janneh expressed appreciation to the Embassy for their engagement and for supporting them in their time of need.
Janneh said he was excited about the moral support they have been receiving from the Ambassador and his team, particularly the financial support they get in the form of stipends from the Government of Sierra Leone through the Embassy.
He underscored the importance of nurturing a supportive environment for Sierra Leoneans studying abroad, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie amid academic and personal challenges.
He also said that the association had created a spirit of oneness among the students through various social events to overcome their academic challenges, noting that they trusted the leadership of the Ambassador to always engage the Government on their behalf.
He appealed to the Ambassador and his team to speedily facilitate conversations between the Agency Morocaine De Cooperation International (AMCI) and the Ministry of Higher Education, particularly on matters relating to key courses that were not offered to Sierra Leonean students in Morocco.
For his part, Ambassador Dainkeh said the commemoration was a reminder of the country’s history with a sense of belonging to a state while also promoting the foreign policies of the Government of Sierra Leone led by President Julius Maada Bio.
Ambassador Dainkeh admonished Sierra Leoneans to promote Sierra Leonean values in positive ways while encouraging students to make good use of government scholarship opportunities as a springboard to their personal growth and development.
He disclosed that after several fruitful discussions with the Agency Morocaine De Cooperation International (AMCI), it had been confirmed that students who had completed their diploma could further their studies for degrees if they so desired.
He called on them to serve as ambassadors of goodwill, showcasing the best of Sierra Leone through their actions and interactions while also stressing the need for unity among Sierra Leoneans.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador also emphasised that together, students can overcome any challenges and build a future worthy of their nation’s indomitable spirit. He urged them to be law abiding and ensure that they work with the Embassy as his doors are always open to Sierra Leoneans in the North African country.
According to Amb. Dainkeh, the Sierra Leone Embassy has been instrumental in facilitating support to the Sierra Leone community in Morocco on various occasions. He said that the Embassy was in discussions with the Moroccan authorities for the Sierra Leone Community to be fully registered and recognised like other communities in the country to enable them get their โ€˜carte de sejour.โ€™
