The Police Regional Commander East, Andrew Mustapha Kamara (CP) on Tuesday announced that popular musician and Peace Ambassador, Alhaji Amadu Lamrana Bah (LAJ) on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Jembeh, along the Bo-Kenema Highway, allegedly assaulted a Guinean, Alqassimu Balde, who was in control of a trailer heading for Kenema.
LAJ and his fans who were heading from Bo to Kenema to stage a show at the Kenema City Plaza allegedly accused the driver of bad driving, according to police.
Commander Kamara during the weekly police press conference said that the Mayor of Kenema, His Worship Thomas Baio was also coming from the same direction as LAJ and his fans to Kenema and saw what transpired and had cause to stop and advised LAJ and his fans about the manner in which they treated the driver.
Police reported that LAJ and some fans insulted the Mayor and his mother.
Shortly after the incident, police reported that the Mayor drove to the Wanjama Checkpoint where he reported the matter to the police.
When LAJ and his fans arrived at the checkpoint in a convoy involving eight vehicles, the police stopped them.
Police also reported that during the course of the Mayorโs statement, LAJ went up to him and held him on the collar of his shirt and dragged him from behind the steering of his vehicle and assaulted him.
In addition, Mr Kamara revealed that three fans entered the vehicle of the Mayor while LAJ was confronting him, carting away valuable items, including 14 pieces of assorted diamonds and the sum of SLL24,610.00.
It was further alleged that the police officers at the Wanjama Checkpoint interceded to stop the incident, during the course of which they were assaulted by LAJ and some of his fans and reports further indicated that one of the three OSD Personnel, PC 21113 Sullay Momodu attached to LAJ engaged “corked” his AK47 Rifle in the midst of the crowd at the Wanjama Checkpoint.
He added that the Mayor made reports of assault, and robbery, while the three police officers also made reports of assault.
LAJ and three others are in police custody helping in the investigation and the three OSD personnel are also under investigation for their conduct during the course of the incident
