As World Bank concludes the Regional International Development Association (IDA) meeting in Kathmandu, Nepal, Mr Sheku Sambadeen Sesay, whoโ€™s the Independent Co-Chair delivered an outstanding performance.
Mr Sheku Sambadeen Sesay, former Financial Secretary and Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone is serving at the highest level of the global bank, the World Bank, to negotiate and raise funding for 74 low income countries.
After competing with former prime ministers, former Vice Presidents, former Ministers of Finance and Governors of Central Banks Mr Sheku Sambadeen Sesay was appointed as the most fit for purpose to drive the agenda of mobilizing resources for poor countries during the turbulent period of global economic crisis.
At the meeting on June 18, 2024, in Kathmandu, Nepal, the Prime Minister Shri Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, delivered the keynote address at the third IDA21 Replenishment Meeting on Building Resilience in South Asia and noted that IDA has been a vital partner in South Asiaโ€™s development for over six decades, helping to improve millions of lives and supporting development results that have moved countries forward.
IDA support has helped deliver results across sectors, including agriculture and food security, education, energy, health, and infrastructure in the region’s IDA countries.
IDAโ€™s partnership with South Asia has achieved impressive results across the region, the Prime Minister acknowledged.
He highlighted IDA support in the past four years as follows:
โ€œMore than 84.7 million people have benefitted from safety net programs.
More than 24.5 million people have received essential health, nutrition, and population services
More than 2.6 million people gained access to improved water sources.
More than 1.8 million people gained access to improved sanitation services and more than 11.5 million people have directly benefited from IDA-focused investments in jobsโ€.
Mr Sesay, whoโ€™s delivered his professional services at the ADB servicing 54 countries, Financial Secretary of Sierra Leone and Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, is now sharing his retirement experience with the global bank, the World Bank to support countries to sustain resistance and eradicate poverty in developing countries.
