On Friday, August 23, 2024, the Inspector General of Police – Mr. William Fayia Sellu bade farewell to the outgoing European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Manuel Muller, during a ceremony hosted at Police Headquarters on George Street, in Freetown. The event also served to introduce Mr. Charlie Suilen, as the newly appointed EU Regional Security Advisor for Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Ambassador Muller expressed his gratitude to IGP Sellu for his steadfast commitment to maintaining internal stability in Sierra Leone since his arrival in the country; adding that the IGP had always been supportive and made himself available at all times. He was full of praise for the peaceful nature and remarkable religious tolerance enjoyed in the country. “I will deeply miss Sierra Leone and her people,” he remarked, urging Sellu to extend the same support to his successor.
Mr. Charlie Suilen, the new EU Regional Security Advisor, pledged his commitment to continuing the partnership between the EU and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), with the view to sustaining the peace, safety, and security of the nation.
In response, IGP Fayia Sellu acknowledged the significant contributions of the EU to the SLP, particularly referencing support for INTERPOL and the West Africa Police Information System (WAPIS). He credited the success of maintaining social order and upholding the rule of law in Sierra Leone to the collaborative efforts and support of the government and partners like the EU. Mr. Sellu bade farewell to Ambassador Muller, stating, “The leadership may change, but the EU remains the same. We will miss you, but please keep Sierra Leone in mind.”
Climaxing the meeting was exchange of pleasantries, goodwill gestures, and group photos.
