Sick Pikin Project at a Press Conference held on Tuesday at Caritas Office in Kingtom said that they are sending four (4) vulnerable children to Indian For Medical.
Making her statement about the press conference, the Board Chair of Sick Pikin Project, Mrs. Grace Jones said that the Sick Pikin Project since its inception has not only raised funds to save lives of sick vulnerable children but has also helped to restore the lost dignity of families whose children were sick and as a family was unable to foot medical bill of their child.
She said that Sick Pikin Project has begged for over 306 cases with 123 surgeries done overseas and 183 locally.
She went on that they still have a growing number of children approaching their office daily looking for help, in a very desperate mood, and with life threatening medical conditions. Mrs. Grace Jones added that as of today 10th September 2024, there are 56 more cases of sick children awaiting funds for treatment.
She stressed that the most worrisome thing is that they don’t know when and where the next help will come from and their complications are increasing daily.
Furthering that all of us can attest to the fact that comprehensive healthcare in Africa is a challenge and Sierra Leone is not an exception to this fact. She said many families are poor to the extent that they find it extremely difficult to even survive daily with a child falls sick, it increases the pressure and poverty as they have to sell all their valuable properties to augment medical bills to an extend of becoming a beggar and lost their dignity while their child is still not well.
In his presentation the Lead Campaigner& Co-Founder Mr. Ishmael Alfred Charles said that for the past years, the Sick Pikin Project has been faced with financial challenges and they are now slower to send children overseas for surgeries as it used to be in the past.
However, he said, amidst these financial difficulties, the project is taking a bold step with the help of some of it’s donors such as Bank of Sierra Leone, the Jalloh family especially the Consul of Netherlands in Sierra Leone for donating the funds raised for Isata Jalloh after she passed, Commissioner Patricia Ndanema and Sister Vicki Middleton and an anonymous donor for their support. He maintained that some of these children traveling have been on their waiting list for long, many of whom were enlisted over the past years. He said that they are pleased to announce to the general public that the project will be sending three of its listed children to Indian for their much needed surgeries.
He informed the press that Caleb Julian Sewah, Isatu Isha Kamara and Mabinty Paulina Bangura will spend the night at Lungi and will depart the shores of Freetown early on 11th September 2024 for New Delhi Indian for their surgeries to be done at varied hospitals in New Delhi Indian.
He continues that two will travel with their mothers and the other one we raise for fully and the other they will facilitate partially for will go under the guardianship of these two mothers due to limited funds as they are not able to raise funds for their mothers.
He said that they remain forever grateful to God Almighty, their benevolent donors and well-wishers, and their energetic volunteers.
He appeal for help for the Sick Pikin Project to focus on giving children another chance to live and by donating you have helped to make that happen. He said that a small amount monthly not be little when using it to save a life.
One of the beneficiary of the Sick Pikin Project, Mabinty Paulina Bangura thank God for this opportunity as she is going to work like she was before and she prayed the Sick Pikin Project to continue to help other children outside there.
She called on other organizations to help the Sick Pikin Project for the betterment of the country.
