Police sources in Kenema have informed the Global Times that a 75-year-old Lebanese Businessman, Salim Dayeck with shop and residence at 26 Hanga Road in Kenema was murdered in cold blood in the early hours of Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
The police alleged that the prime suspect, Umaru Sama is a long-time trusted worker of the deceased with both men living in the same residence while the family of the Lebanese Businessman, Salim Dayeck are living in Lebanon.
According to police sources, after the deceased was allegedly stabbed to death by Umaru Sama and his assailants, the shop-boy went down the steps with the safe and shop keys belonging to the deceased to carry out his motive.
Police report added that the shop-boy was spotted by a closed neighbour of the deceased, Kamal Mansour when the boy was opening the late manโ€™s shop and grew suspicious of the shop being opened at an unusual time.
The report added that the neighbour tried to call his โ€˜brotherโ€™ (the deceased) through his mobile phone but could not receive any response from him and wasted no time by rushing down across the street of Hanga Road and confronted the shop-boy Umaru Sama on his activity during which the residence of the deceased provided a clue to the whole scenario which attracted many of the onlookers, including bike riders.
Umaru Sama was reportedly found with a kitchen knife and blood stains on his trousers. The police according to the report were quickly alerted and immediately stormed the scene and discovered the deceased before he was taken to Kenema Hospital Mortuary while continuing the investigation.
The Global Times has been reliably informed that 20 people, including the prime suspect, have been arrested and taken into police custody amid investigation continues.
The deceased Salim Dayeck has reportedly spent several decades in the district involved in mining activities in Mano Junction before relocating to Kenema after the civil war in Sierra Leone.
The Police Media Officer attached to the Kenema Police Division, Inspector Prince Bernard Jayiboi told this medium last night that they would update the press in due course.
