In a Facebook post, President Bio said.
“Today, I had a productive conversation with His Majesty King Charles III, the Head of the Commonwealth, in anticipation of the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) taking place in Samoa later this month.
I look forward to a fruitful participation and a successful Summit in Samoa”.
Leaders of Commonwealth countries meet every two years for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), hosted by different member countries on a rotating basis.
The most recent CHOGM was held in Rwanda in 2022.
The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2024 (CHOGM) will take place in Apia, Samoa from 21-26 October 2024. It will be the first CHOGM to be held in a Pacific Small Island Developing State.
Building on progress since CHOGM 2022, leaders will deliberate on the global economy, environmental and security challenges, and discuss how Commonwealth countries can work together to build resilience, boost trade, innovation, growth and empower the Commonwealthโ€™s 1.5 billion young people for a more peaceful and sustainable future.
According to Hon. Fiamฤ“ Naomi Mataสปafa, Prime Minister of Samoa, “We look forward to welcoming the Commonwealth family to our home. Already, we are hard at work, hand-in-hand with the team from the Commonwealth Secretariat, and counting on the support of our partners and the Commonwealth Family, to ensure a successful, productive and unique event”.
According to a statement from Buckingham Palace “Their Majesties The King and Queen will undertake an Autumn Tour from Friday 18th to Saturday 26th October 2024. This will include a Royal Visit to Australia, State Visit to The Independent State of Samoa and attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024.
As Head of the Commonwealth, The King, accompanied by The Queen, will attend the CHOGM Opening Ceremony and will host a Dinner for Commonwealth Heads of Government. The King will also host a Reception for New Heads of Government and will attend the CHOGM Business Forum to hear about progress on sustainable urbanisation and investment in solutions to tackle climate change.
Gender Equality and Womenโ€™s empowerment is one of CHOGMโ€™s key themes, and Her Majesty will attend a side event to the Womenโ€™s Forum on the subject of โ€˜Advocating for Women and Girls in the Commonwealthโ€™, with a focus on eliminating violence against women and improving health.”
