The Chief Immigration Chief Officer (CIO), Hon. Alusine Kanneh, has unveiled a new set of security uniforms for personnel of the Sierra Leone Immigration Department.
At the official unveiling and launching ceremony at the Freetown City Council Auditorium on Friday, 1st November, 2024 Hon. Alusine Kanneh said, โToday is not merely a celebration of new attire-It is a statement of our evolution, our readiness, and our commitment to the future of national security and migration management in Sierra Leoneโ.
The Chief Immigration Officer noted that, โThe Immigration Department is at the very heart of our nationโs security, maintaining law and order at points of entry and departure, and facilitating the smooth movement of people for economic growth and national developmentโ.
According to Hon. Alusine Kanneh, โTodayโs unveiling of our new uniforms is more than a change of appearance-It is a transformation of our identity. These uniforms symbolize a modern, professional, and dynamic Immigration Department that is equipped to face the challenges of todayโs world. A uniform is not just a fabric; it is a badge of honor, authority, and responsibilityโ. It reflects our discipline, unity, and the trust that people of the Sierra Leone place in us. For our officers, it is a reminder of the values we hold dear-integrity, vigilance and service to the nationโ.
The CIO added, โOver the past few years, we have made significant progress in modernizing our institution, enhancing our operational capacity, and building an agile immigration serviceโ.
The Secretary to the President, Dr. Emmanuel Gaima, called on the CIO to invest in technology and digital services in line with the vision of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen. (Rtd.) David Taluva, welcomed the decision by the CIO to introduce a new set of uniforms for Immigration personnel.
Gen. Taluva underscored the importance of wearing uniforms. He described uniforms as a symbol of authority, and an easy way to identify people. He thanked the Chief Immigration Officer for his show of leadership and the gradual transformation of the Immigration Department.
Ambassador Tamba Lamina who deputized the Honourable Vice President as guest speaker emphasized the need for a well-managed Immigration system. He described the Immigration Department as very crucial in the security eco-system of any country.
The Secretary to the Vice President, Babah Fortune, chaired the occasion.
Speeches were made by the Chairman of the Public Service Commission Alhaji K.O. Bah, a representative from HRMO, and the National Coordinator of the Office of National Security Abdulai Caulker.
The official unveiling and launching of the new set of uniforms was done by the representative of the Hon. Vice President, Ambassador Tamba Lamina who doubles as Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs.
