With few hundreds of relatives and friends, the Hashim Family organised the Fortieth Day ceremony for the Hashim Brothers (Mr. Hashim Hussein Hashim and Mr. Hassan Hashim) who passed away in hospital in Beirut, Lebanon in September this year. The low-key affair took place on Saturday, 9th November, 2024 at the Lebanese Cultural Complex in Freetown.

In his short but impressive tribute to the Late Twin Brothers, President Julius Maada Bio described them as his best friends and brothers. He added that, The Hashim Brothers were reliable, trustworthy, dependable and very loyal to their friends.

The President noted that, even in sick bed, the Hashim Brothers were itching to return to work to continue to serve the country, humanity and the people of Sierra Leone.

President Bio noted that the Late Twin Brothers never abandoned their friends. He said no matter which political party was in power in Sierra Leone, they always kept their friends. They didn’t abandon their friends, he said.

President Bio said he was heartbroken by the demise of the two gentlemen but consoled the family that, in life, everybody will experience death one day. “There is a time to come and a time to go”, he said.

The President disclosed that, he has been to Lebanon seven times. He said he knows Southern Lebanon and the Lebanese People very well. He added that, the Lebanese have started migrating to Sierra Leone over a century ago. They are now part and parcel of the Sierra Leonean culture and way of life, the President said.

The Late Twin Brothers Mr Hashim Hussein Hashim (Abu Ali) Sierra Leone’s Consul in Lebanon and Mr. Hassan Hussein (Abu Hamza) died three days apart from each other. They first migrated to Sierra Leone as young men in 1967, six years after Sierra Leone’s Independence and settled in Kenema and later relocated to Freetown as a result of the outbreak of the Sierra Leone civil war in 1991. They were both successful businessmen and philanthropists.
