In a significant operation, the Regional Police Commander of Freetown-East, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Francis Brima Meinday, led a joint security effort that uncovered an illicit Kush production facility at a residence on Kanu Drive, Temne Town, Upper Allen Town.
Concerns had been mounting in the community as several pupils from the nearby Baptist Secondary School reported health issues linked to chemicals used in the Kush manufacturing process. The situation escalated when an explosion erupted from the suspected drug lab, prompting immediate police action.
Upon arrival at the scene, AIG Meinday and his security team conducted a thorough search of the residence, leading to the discovery of numerous items associated with the production of Kush. The police seized a variety of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and substances believed to be Kush, along with protective gear such as gloves and face masks. Additionally, a quantity of cash, suspected to be related to the proceeds of the drug trade, was also recovered.
Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the operation and are currently being held for investigation at the Trans-National Organised Crime Unit (TOCU).
This discovery underscores the ongoing battle against drug production and trafficking in the region.
