The IOM (International Organization for Migration) in partnership with the Sierra Leone Consulate in Lebanon on Sunday, 1st December, 2024 successfully organized the repatriation of an additional 41 Sierra Leonean migrant workers from Lebanon. They departed from the Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon and arrived safely at the Freetown International Airport (FNA).
This is the third batch of Sierra Leonean migrant workers to be repatriated from Lebanon since the Israeli invasion of Lebanon started on 1st October, 2024.
The Minister of Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, was very instrumental in facilitating the repatriation of stranded Sierra Leonean migrant workers from Lebanon after he made a call to action through the Global Director General of the IOM whilst on an official visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in October this year.
The Sierra Leone Consulate in Lebanon and the Sierra Leone Community Committee were very instrumental in facilitating the repatriation of the stranded migrant workers from Lebanon.
Since the repatriation exercise started on 5th November, 2024 to date, over 200 Sierra Leonean migrant workers have been repatriated from Lebanon.
The repatriated migrant workers have commended the IOM, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, the Sierra Leone Consulate in Lebanon and the Sierra Leone Community Committee in Lebanon for facilitating their safe repatriation to Sierra Leone. They prayed for the soul of the late Sierra Leonean Consul in Lebanon, Pa Hashim Hussein Hashim to rest peacefully in heaven.
