Following the impoundment of Sierra Leone Embassy’s utility vehicle in Conakry on 31st December, 2024 by the Guinean Authorities on account of contraband substances found in it, the Minister of Foreign Affairs announced the immediate recall of Ambassador Alimamy Bangura to Freetown for inquiries into the matter.
The recall did not happen immediately as the Guinean Authorities seemed determined to prosecute the matter in the Guinean court.
A week of intensive diplomatic maneuvering and negotiations by Foreign Minister Timothy Kabba and his team has unfrozen the diplomatic thaw.
So far, it has not been established that the Ambassador is directly linked to the incident.
The Minister and Ambassador Alimamy Bangura are expected in Freetown today.
