A strong and dedicated member of the Sierra Leone People’s Party North America Branch, Henry Stevens, has informed newsmen that he is contesting for the position of Chairman SLPPNA.
Stevens said he is coming up to change the leadership of the party in North America, which he described as failing them. He said he is determined to unseat the incumbent in a free and fair poll.
“I have decided to run because the incumbent Mr. Desmond Pessima has failed this 5th Region. His first failure was the commission of inquiry that he set up and failed to make the outcome public”, said Stevens. He accused the current leadership of promising to bring back party conferences. He also accused Desmond of promising to expand the region, which he failed, among others.
Henry Stevens said he has served SLPP-NA and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Secretary General of New Jersey Chapter. He said in the 2021 elections, he went unopposed because of his good track record.
According to Stevens, why he should be trusted with the SLPPNA leadership is because his leadership style is completely different from the current holder.
“I believe in working with my executive to get work done. In New Jersey, I have maintained unity, brought initiatives like cookouts, and made the party attractive to Sierra Leoneans. I will address the needs of my members when bereaved or celebrating birthdays, among othersโ.
He noted that the party made a serious mistake when they elected the current leadership, adding that, members are determined to correct their mistakes to elect him and never again they will elect a leader who will go far away from them.
Mr. Stevens said that if elected as Chairman, SLPPNA will be the best, and he will always put the interest of members above self.
Stevens noted that never again that people who want leadership will use others and dump them. He noted that people are conscious now, and they will not accept a failed leadership.
He said if elected as Chairman SLPPNA, his executive will allow members to bring onboard ideas how they want things to happen with the SLPPNA Chapter.
“We will not accept dictatorship and arrogance. Members are going to vote for me based on my manifesto and what I have done. I have experience and courage, and I will provide a better leadership for my members. Those days have gone for members to elect someone who doesn’t care about them after electionsโ, he stressed.
Stevens said he has good relationships with the President, First Lady, and other party members, noting that New Jersey is one of the bread baskets of the party.
He emphasized the need for collaboration and promised to ensure that new members join SLPPNA and those who may have left because of bad leadership return to the party.
He said the SLPP is not for one person but for all. He said what people want is respect and development, which he stated is lacking at the moment. He said that if given the opportunity, he would bring positive changes
