At the third Presidential Townhall meeting held in the Northern headquarter town of Makeni yesterday, President Julius Maada Bio disclosed that Sierra Leone will host the ECOWAS Summit at Lungi, Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom, Port Loko district on 19th July, 2026.
This is the first time Sierra Leone is hosting the ECOWAS Summit since its establishment on 28th May, 1975.
The 15-member (now 12-member) sub-regional body is headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria.
President Julius Maada Bio is the current Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
At yesterdayโ€™s Presidential Townhall meeting in Makeni, President Bio disclosed that he would be traveling to Abuja, Nigeria today to formally take part in the commissioning of the new ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja.
According to diplomatic sources, all twelve ECOWAS leaders have confirmed willingness to take in the ECOWAS Summit at Lungi on 19th July, 2026.
