Sierra Leone To Export Cooking Oil Soon

The industrial sector has been dormant for decades due to several unfortunate reasons, but it is getting back on its feet under the New Direction Government of President Dr Julius Maada Bio.

According to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Edward Hinga Sandy, the contribution from the industrial sector in Sierra Leone according to a recent World Bank Report has increased in the past two years from 2% to about 10%.

He also said that, his Ministry has signed several agreements with local companies for the production and export of different products, Socfin, Jolaks and Kissy Oil to name but a few.

The Minister furthered that, during his last visit to The Gambia, as part of their bilateral discussion with The Gambia, Sierra Leone will support The Gambia with the export of Padi and Leo vegetable oil and very soon they will start to export to The Gambia.

Jolaks Manufacturing Co Ltd is Sierra Leoneโ€™s biggest palm oil refinery & soap producer. They produce Padi Cooking Oil & a variety of soaps. Jolaks has established a 300 MT per day physical refinery and dry fractionation plant. The purpose is to refine CPO into RBD Palm Olein (commonly known as Vegetable Cooking Oil).which is available in white and yellow jerry cans in different sizes.

A reliable source at Jolaks revealed that, the company commissions its saponification plant which can make soap noodles available for local use and export.

They have also launched a state-of-the-art beauty soap and laundry soap production line that will be able to make beauty soaps, laundry soaps, medicated soaps and multi-purpose soaps that have the flexibility to produce paper wrap packing, box packing and pillow wrap packing.

Kissy Industry is Sierra Leoneโ€™s first indigenous company to process locally grown palm oil. Kissy Industries produces high quality products such as Leo vegetable cooking oil.
