Five Police Officers who were under investigation for improper conduct such as unlawful possession of drugs and other disciplinary offences for the past few weeks by CDIID at Police Headquarters in Freetown, have been dismissed from the Sierra Leone Police and charged to court.
According to Police sources, on Wednesday, 9th November 2022, CDIID at Police Headquarters received a report from Chief Inspector Alpha Lamin Kamara, FPU Coordinator at the SILEA Campus, Hastings, stating that, on Tuesday, 8th November 2022, during a routine check at the said campus, he discovered a number of narcotic drugs such as 16 wraps of suspected Kush, 8 tablets of tramadol and 238 wraps of cannabis sativa and other contraband items together with 13 live rounds of ammunition on the following five (5) personnel undergoing FPU training. The five personnel are as follows.
1. PC 13277 HAJA .S CONTEH- MARINE DEPT(found in possession of 236 wraps of cannabis sativa).
2. PC 16030 IBRAHIM COLLIER HAZELEY-MONGO POLICE DIVISION (found in his possession 1 wrap of cannabis sativa)
3. P.C 15595 SANTIGIE TURAY- OSD HQ. (Found in his possession 1 wrap of cannabis sativa)
4. P.C 12743 ALPHA KARGBO OSD HQ (Found in his possession 16 wraps of Kush, 8 tablets of tramadol, 16 sachets of root power alcoholic drink; one packet totapak; two packets of gold seal cigarettes; one packet of empire cigarettes and a magazine of 13 rounds of ammunition).
5. CPL 14619 MOHAMED NABIEU – TRANSPORT HQ (found in his possession 1 wrap of cannabis sativa & one wrap of Kush).
They have all been dismissed from the Sierra Leone Police and charged to court.
In another development, the United Nations Office on drugs and crime has provided the Sierra Leone Police with 1500 drug testing kits with urine analysis which means the urine test will pick up someone who has taken narcotic drug as far back as two weeks.
According to the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, the Forensic and Scientific Unit of the Sierra Leone Police will be conducting a random and on the spot check on police personnel in fulfillment of the zero tolerance on drugs in the force.
He said, โ€œIf anyone is caught during the random check he or she will face the CDIID and full action will be takenโ€, the IGP conclude.
