The new United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary designate to the Republic of Sierra Leone, Bryan D. Hunt, on Friday visited the Sierra Leone Embassy in the USA, where he held fruitful discussions with Embassy staff and reassured them of the US continues bilateral collaboration between both countries.
‘According to the US Department of States, Bryan Hunt is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister Counselor, currently serves as the Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the United States Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, IL.
Prior to that, Mr. Hunt, served as Director, Office of South Sudan and Sudan, Bureau of African Affairs, Department of State, Washington, D.C. and, also served as the State Departmentโs Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Africa and the Sudans.
Mr. Huntโs overseas leadership roles include Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassies in Maputo, Mozambique, Georgetown, Guyana and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.ย Mr. Huntโs keen intellect, extensive experience as a senior leader and policy maker and his deep familiarity with African issues make him well-qualified to serve as Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone
Earlier, Mr. Hunt served for six years in Pakistan, including as Consul General and Principal Officer of the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore and as Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.ย There he demonstrated his ability to work effectively even in the most difficult security environments and complex policy relationships.ย Mr. Hunt also held assignments as Deputy Director for Regional Affairs, in the Office of Regional and Security Affairs in the State Departmentโs Africa Bureau and as the Desk Office for Angola, in the Office of Southern African Affairs and for Togo, Benin and Cote dโIvoire in the Office of West African Affairs.ย Overseas, Mr. Hunt served in the U.S. Embassies in Maputo, Mozambique, Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, and in Gaborone, Botswana.
Mr. Hunt earned his bachelorโs degree from American University, Washington D.C.ย He speaks Portuguese, German and Urdu.ย He was awarded the State Departmentโs Distinguished Honor Award and received numerous other State Department awards, as well as the Coast Guard Meritorious Public Service Award.
He is expected in Freetown on 9th September 2023.
