The Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, yesterday pledged support to the Chief Immigration Officer (CIO), Hon. Alusine Kanneh in his efforts to digitise the Immigration Department following a courtesy visit of the Deputy Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone.
During a meeting held at the head office of the Immigration Department in Freetown, Hon. Kanneh asked for technological support from the Embassy represented by the Deputy Ambassador as part of the new CIOโs transformation drive.
The Chief Immigration Officer announced that he was seeking help in the fulfilment of a digital dream so that the institution would resonate with different countriesโ immigration offices in terms of technology, including China.
Hon. Kanneh told the Deputy Ambassador that he was primarily focusing on transforming the institution so that it would become a better place for all.
He said the Immigration Department is deprived in terms of logistics which is geared toward the effective operation of the institution due to lack of proper technologies.
โThis is how it is supposed to be when it comes to leadership. You reach out to people when you need support for your institution,โ Hon. Kanneh said, adding thus: China has always been a good friend of Sierra Leone, and I am happy this morning that the Deputy Chinese Ambassador is here to pay courtesy to me and to pledge support towards the growth of the Immigration Department”.
In a brief statement, the Deputy Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone, Li Xiaoyong said he felt elated for the outreach made by the Chief Immigration Officer.
Mr Xiaoyong assured Hon. Kanneh that the Chinese Government would support his leadership in order to achieve his digitisation drive.
He expressed that he cherished the professional and personal relationship he had with the Chief Immigration Officer.
