The Director General of SLRA (Sierra Leone Roads Authority) Ing Amara Jambai Kanneh, has exclusively informed the Global Times that, negotiations are ongoing between his Authority and CTC Mining (SL) Limited for the road between Masiaka and Port Loko to be fixed by CTC, following concerns raised by SLRA, over the deterioration of the road due to frequent use by CTC trucks hauling bauxite to the Pepel port.
According to Ing Amara Kanneh, his deputy visited the site last Friday with a team of SLRA and CTC engineers to assess the scope of the work to be done and the cost involved.
So far, there is palpable disagreement over the cost and scope of work to be done. CTC have agreed to do the road but with the original design. SLRA are insisting on drainages to be added to the road design even though there are no drainages along the stretch of road in question.
Speaking optimistically to the Global Times over the weekend, the hardworking Ing Amara Kanneh said that, the outstanding issues would be amicably resolved in the best interests of the road users.
A CTC spokesman noted that there are still some grey areas remaining to conclude negotiations with SLRA for work to commence. โ€œWe are very optimistic that those grey areas will be addressed and work will commence pretty soonโ€, he said.
CTC is operating in the Marampa and Maforki Chiefdoms in the Port Loko district.
