As the deadline to obtain the National and Non-National Identity Cards draws nearer (June 28), some senior citizens across the country have pleaded with the Director General of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) to consider extending the deadline for obtaining these ID Cards.
The public will recall that Parliament enacted a legislation in March 2022 that ties access to services including legislation in March 2022 that ties access to services including business registration, school enrollment, Land and Property Registration, Acquisition of Driving Licenses/Vehicle Registration, NASSIT pension payment, acquisition of Passport, Work/Resident Permit, Bank Account operations, SIM Card registration etc to the ID Cards that bear the unique National Identification Number (NIN) of all citizens and non- citizens resident in Sierra Leone.
Since the launch of the production of the multipurpose ID Cards in January 2023 by His Excellency the President, demand for the ID cards has continued to rise exponentially on account of access to these services as well as to facilitate the reliable identification of citizens and foreign residents in Sierra Leone.
As the voice of the public continues to ring louder and since the interest of the pubic is paramount to the Government of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio whose agenda the Director General of NCRA Mr. Mohamed Mubashir Massaquoi has continued to push forward with dedication and commitment, members of the public continue to request that the leadership of NCRA kindly accommodates their request on behalf of the people of this country to extend the deadline from the 28th June to at least the end of this year.
The workaholic NCRA DG is yet to react to the request made to him by some senior citizens in the country.
