According to reports gathered by this press revealed Augustine Foday Kargbo, who was residing at No 3 Teddy Drive off Solo B drive Goderich, Freetown, Sierra Leone, is on the run for fear for his life.
Augustine Foday Kargbo is nowhere to be found in Sierra Leone as he is on the run after he was caught on same sex sexual activities with his male partner in Freetown on Thursday, 6th August 2020.
People in the Goderich community in the Western part of Freetown said that Augustine deserved nothing but death after he managed to escape while his bisexual partner who was caught by irate youths was severely beaten by the youths in the community.
Due to the severe injuries his partner got from the horribly beaten, he was left for death at Counnaught Hospital in Freetown.
It is believed that Augustine has been into bisexual activities secretly even in his high school days where he was caught and punished by the school authorities and for that reason he was disowned by his father who was a reputable man of God in their community.
“His father even threatened to kill him if he ever set eyes on him again,” a family member revealed.
In Sierra Leone gay activities is considered a taboo and if you are caught on the act, you will be mercilessly mobbed which has led to the death of those who can’t stand the pain, before the matter is reported to the authorities.
According to sources, Augustine faced a lot of discrimination from family, friends, employers, and even his church members.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Sierra Leone face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Male same-sex sexual activity (whether in public or private) is illegal in Sierra Leone and carries a possible penalty of life imprisonment (with hard labour).
Ever since independence from England in 1961 (since 1808), the Sierra Leone government and society have preferred to deny the existence of lesbians and gay men. But since the turn of the 21st century, African homosexuality has become a flashpoint of conflict between old Biblical/Quranic colonial ideas and progressive human rights activism.
