When the APC genuinely lost the 2023 general elections, they blamed the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone for allegedly rigging the elections results in favor of the ruling SLPP. Against the advice of their own lawyers, the party refused to challenge the outcome of the 2023 elections in court. Instead, they engaged in a media campaign against the ECSL and the Judiciary of Sierra Leone. Some of their leaders made it crystal clear that they had no confidence in the Judiciary. They boycotted Parliament and refused to take part in any government activity.

Last week, the partyโ€™s elected MPs walked out of Parliament when a vote on certain clauses in the Constitution Amendment Bill was underway. On 10th August, 2026 Parliament passed the Constitution Amendment Bill with a simple majority, as required by law.

The Speaker ruled that the Bill did not require a two-thirds majority support from elected MPs to amend the Constitution.

The APC, at a press conference last week, announced that they would seek a Supreme Court interpretation of the Speakerโ€™s ruling. They have the right to do so! What happens if the Supreme Court rules against the party that had said openly in 2023 that they had no confidence in the Judiciary?

The APC will again blame the Judiciary for their leadership failure. They are simply looking out for someone to unfairly blame for their poor judgement in walking out of Parliament during a very crucial vote to amend the national Constitution.

A good number of APC supporters are now blaming leaders of the party for their unwise decision to walk out of Parliament during a crucial moment in the House. The long and short of it all is that, the APC leaders have run of road. They are planning to use the Judiciary as a scapegoat for their failure to perform their sacred responsibility of representing the interest of the country in the House of Parliament. Shame on APC leaders, both in the Party and in Parliament!

President Julius Maada Bio should immediately discharge his Constitutional duty of assenting the Constitutional Amendment Bill passed by the Legislature. That is how a civilized society is governed.

The three branches of government have their separate and distinct roles and responsibilities well defined in the Constitution.

President Bio has taken an oath to defend the sanctity of the Constitution of Sierra Leone. That sacred oath must be treated seriously. President Bio is a law and order man.

Leaders of the APC have let down their supporters, their party and above all, their country. Shame on them!
