Police at Lunsar in Northern Sierra Leone are currently investigating a case of murder that took place at the Marampa Mining site currently occupied by SL Mining.

Police sources say that this is not the first time that someone had been murdered at the same mining site illegally occupied by SL Mining.

It would be recalled that the Government of Sierra Leone cancelled the license of SL Mining in 2019 for alleged breach of their contractual obligations. The aggrieved company later took the Government of Sierra Leone to the international court of Arbitration in the UK. Since then, SL Mining has refused to vacate the said mining site relying on the inactions of the state.

This is reportedly not the first murder case on that site since 2019. These separate but related incidents of death should be thoroughly investigated by the Government of Sierra Leone, according to local authorities in the area.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources informed the Global Times last night that no official report has been made to them in relation to the alleged murder.

Police investigations continue.
